Welcome to WikiVoyager - Beta Edition
What you see before you is the beginning of a very special project: the generation of a complete, comprehensive and FREE set of travel guides written by and for Travel Professionals. WikiVoyager is underwritten byTravel Research Online and the many travel suppliers that sponsor TRO's set of free marketing tools for the travel professional community.
Take A Look At Some of WikiVoyager's Existing "Seed" Content
We begin with over 12,000 pages of Seed Content. At launch that content is largely unedited, but useful for quick research. Over the next few months, our editors and the WikiVoyager community will transform this material into a set of first class destination guides.
Feel free to browse around the site, it is very extensive. Start with the menu below and keep drilling down! You can always come back to this page using the Main Page link on the left-hand navigation menu.

Hotels
There are abrieviated hotel reviews in the Seed Content scattered throughout the WikiVoyager site. We are moving fast to create reviews with seed content that looks like this review of The Carlyle that you can use and, of course, add your own comments. Hotels with full reviews are denoted by the use of the WikiVoyager Globe
. Here are some other recent reviews:
Restaurant Reviews
Again, you will find throughout the existing Seed Content some reviews. We are quickly building a seed database of thousands of reviews worldwide, that you can use such as this one of Otto in New York City. Use these with your clients and add your own new reviews and comments! Restaurants with full reviews are denoted by the use of the WikiVoyager Globe
.
The WikiVoyager Mission
WikiVoyager has a two-fold mission:
1. To develop a set of travel and destination guides created by Travel Professionals.
2. To make WikiVoyager content freely available to travel writers and travel agents as a marketing and research tool.
How Can I Use WikiVoyager?
- Research a destination - thousands of destinations - for clients!
- Find a great hotel review.
- Know restaurants to recommend to your clients.
- Use WikiVoyager content on your company website, in your newsletters or emails for free!
Our content is YOUR content: yours to use in whatever way you wish, for FREE.
Reviews of Destinations, Hotels, Cruises and Restaurants
The scope of our coverage will be destinations, hotel reviews, cruise ships and restaurant reviews. As a travel professional, you will have your opportunity to use these materials in your own research and marketing, or to contribute your own reviews.
Why?
WikiVoyager's core premise is that travel professionals can create the best possible, high quality, reliable set of travel reference materials. Each travel writer or agent, each tour operator, deals with these destinations and hotel properties on a daily basis. Travel professionals can distill the aggregate experience of their clients into a concise understanding of the destination or hotel property. From their own experience and from those of their clients, travel professionals can tell you the best places to eat, sleep and visit.
Historically, however, information like this was scattered among the thousands of travel agents, agencies and tour operators across North America. WikiVoyager now seeks to bring this knowledge together in a single, easilly accessible, repository.
We want to vastly improve on consumer generated sites such as Trip Advisor. Even the agent oriented tools that have been available to date are typically either out of date or too expensive. The WikiVoyager Project will provide timely, free research and marketing tools for travel writers and agents.
You can contribute to this effort!
About WikiVoyager's existing content?
We launch with over 12,000 destinations, more than any current resource for travel agents. We will now build upon that seed content, and there is much work to be done.
As you browse the content here as of our launch you will notice that the quality of the information is mixed. That is because this original content was developed by consumers who were avid travelers as well. The WikiVoyager mission is now to shape that content into readable, informative and useful travel information for travel professionals and consumers alike.
As of our launch date some destinations are covered very well, others hardly at all. Most of the information is accurate, but most has not been "fact checked." The grammar is uneven and the quality of the editorial ranges to very good to not good at all. That is where our Travel Professionals in the WikiVoyager Community come in.
Bringing the quality of this content up to a professional standard is the task at hand.
If you want to use WikiVoyager Content for your own research and marketing
Great! It is yours to use. Here are the terms of our Copyleft Policy. You can type practically any destination into the search box on the left navigation menu and begin. Why Should I Contribute? What's in it for me?
Good question! You are a professional, with your own day job. Why should you spend your time contibuting to a set of travel guides?
Remember you don't have to contribute to use this content in your own marketing. The material in WikiVoyager is yours to use, for free, whether you contribute or not. Just understand and follow the Copyleft Policy and all of our content is yours to use as you will.
However, if you do decide to contribute:
